Default Upgrading my 04 FX4 stereo as cheap as possible. With Pics!!

I am planning on redoing my stereo for as cheap as possible. I had some parts given to me that have been sitting in storage for a couple months now, that I may as well try and make use of. This isn't going to be a killer install. I just want to be able to use the stock locations. But it will be on a super tight budget.

Currently my 04 has the factory 6 disc changer and the audiophile sub. The drivers side speaker distorts at about 1/2 volume so the front 2 speakers will need to be changed to. I'm going to go round up all my spare crap and see what I have..... More to come.

What's the max size sub that can get under the read seat of a 2004 scab? I think I have a couple subs that may fit. Or if not I will sell to purchase ones that will. Ones an mtx jackhammer 12".....

Ok rounded up spare stereo stuff I have kicking around.

Mtx Jack Hammer 12" 400 watts in box.

Measures 7" tall out of box. i am guessing its too tall. Damn

Jensem XS 10" sub Cheap POS. Will fit but prob sell to finance a decent one.

Mtx JH300 amp. Prob use this to power my sub.

Planet Wave VX3004. Could use this to power the 4 door speakers, but will more then likely sell to fund project.

Pioneer gm-x802 again Will prob be sold to finance the rest of the build.

Some speakers from my cousins boat. I think they may be a 6.5" and may fit in my doors. can sell the pod if they work....

Running total... $0

Got the subs and amps up on the local buy and sell. See what happens.

My cousin has a Clarion max675vd head unit (older) that he will let me take for $100. Are these any good?

I redid ALL of the audio on my GF's car for 500 dollars.

get two sets of 50 dollar door speakers (any of them really) = 100
Kicker Comp 10" and box = 100
Rockford Fosgate 250 watt mono amp = 150
Rockford Fosgate 8 guage wiring kit = 75
Head unit (used from friend, included mounting hardware) = 65

Thats 490, and it sounds pretty dang good. Assuming you are keeping the head unit, you could spend around 400 bucks and get some pretty good jams.

To be totally honest I am kind of looking forward to trying to get this done at zero or next to zero. I'm gonna scab around and sell this older gear and see what I can do. This is including buying the wood to build the box and wiring for the amp and all that crap.

Update: if anyone cares lol

Sold the jack hammer sub in box for $150, and bought a pioneer deck and 2 10" jl subs for $120. Deck was out of an 06 so it came with the wiring and the mount.

Total so far -$20.

Installed the deck today.. Will snap a pic later.

Have a guy who wants to trade my planet wave amp for 4 stock speakers in good shape... Not sure what to think about that

Still hold out or use adapters to mount the 6 1/2 inch ones you have.
