Default Info overload=Confusion...

I've been reading and trying to absorb all of the info in this forum and started on DIYMA from a link on here. Needless to say I'm getting overwhelmed! I have installed a few systems before so I'm not completely in the dark, but with this new tech (for me anyway) its opening up new doors for sound systems. First off I have a 2016 XL Screw, 6 speaker, 4D Tech 8" Sync3 kit. I'm looking for a nice sounding, not over the top quality system. I like bass, but not overkill. I listen to classic rock/ todays rock/metal. I grew up in the 80's so I'm the Motley Crue/Metallica/Judas Priest stuff, and todays Godsmack, Shinedown, Saving Abel. I have used Alpine R series, Rockford Punch and Power series, and Eclipse in the past. From reading here I plan on adding a DSP amp, front components, maybe rear fill, and an underseat sub. Plan on doing my first sound deadening also. Figured I'd go with Noico 80 on door skins, door panels and roof. I have the harness already. I have messaged a few people with questions and opinions and would like to say thanks for the help/input. I'm doing so much research that I think I'm confusing myself. So here are a few things that i am a little foggy on...
1. If plan on using a DSP I should not have to use Forscan to flatten the signal....I'm pretty sure I have read to do it both ways. Doesnt the DSP flatten the signal?
2. If I do flatten the signal, do I have to install RCA connectors to harness/ to amp?
3. I'm pretty sure I have changed from 6.5" components to 6X9's.
4. I have never done active front stage but I want to with DSP. ( Looking at AF GS 690 and a tweeter or Morel Tempo Ultra 692, but then I woudnt use X over).
5. Looks like I need to invest in a microphone.....
6. Plan on AC D-6.1200. Active fronts will take 4 of the 6, so with rear fill I would need a sub amp. The 6.1200 will allow me to add one and still be on the DSP.
7. Like the JL stealthbox, but MTI single under the small half of rear set is appealing......
8. Lots of recommendations for the Dayton but I prefer less cables/components.
9. Going to use fine copper welding cable for power/ground
10. Speed rings/weather strip.
11. Access panel covers with weather strip.
12. It sounds like my chimes/alerts are going to be amplified if I dont Forscan to low level? If the amp/DSp powers up when i open the doors?

I welcome any comments/recommendations to help me out. Love this forum and lurking DIYMA now.......Thanks, Scott

Either way is acceptable since you can use the DSP's EQ to adjust to your liking. Setting the EQ flat may make the process easier, though.

2. If I do flatten the signal, do I have to install RCA connectors to harness/ to amp?
No. RCAs are only needed if you switch to 'low level' output from the radio. That is a different setting from the EQ.

3. I'm pretty sure I have changed from 6.5" components to 6X9's.
A 6x9 in the same model line will generally perform a bit better than its 6.5" counterpart. However, the majority of high end components (>$500) are only available in 6.5"

4. I have never done active front stage but I want to with DSP. ( Looking at AF GS 690 and a tweeter or Morel Tempo Ultra 692, but then I woudnt use X over).
Correct. The DSP will allow you to set your own crossover points/slopes.

5. Looks like I need to invest in a microphone.....
Look at the Dayton iMM-6 to get you started. It's not the greatest, but its price is.

6. Plan on AC D-6.1200. Active fronts will take 4 of the 6, so with rear fill I would need a sub amp. The 6.1200 will allow me to add one and still be on the DSP.
The D-6.1200 is a great amp, but I would consider the LC-6.1200 and Dayton DSP-408 instead.
Or, consider a pair of 4 channel amps. One for fronts. One for rears and sub (bridge CH3-4 for sub).

7. Like the JL stealthbox, but MTI single under the small half of rear set is appealing......
Also look at Fox Acoustics. Great value alternative. Lots of good reviews here and elsewhere.

8. Lots of recommendations for the Dayton but I prefer less cables/components.
Disregard my DSP comment on #6...
(You could potentially save a good chunk of money on amps and still get the same end result, though)

9. Going to use fine copper welding cable for power/ground
Knu Konceptz has very good pricing on OFC amp kits. They are a very well regarded company.

10. Speed rings/weather strip.

11. Access panel covers with weather strip.
Talk to HushCarAudio here on the forums.

12. It sounds like my chimes/alerts are going to be amplified if I dont Forscan to low level? If the amp/DSp powers up when i open the doors?
You can move the chimes to the dash speaker via Forscan:
720-01-01 xxxx xxx0 xxxx Chimes IPC Internal Speaker Only

I welcome any comments/recommendations to help me out. Love this forum and lurking DIYMA now.......Thanks, Scott
Hope that helps

Yes! Thanks! So converting to low level doesn't flatten the eq.......I didn't realize this.....I was under the impression that it did.

If you're going to run active, you can't do the speakers first.

They are excellent. But active does not mean better sound quality. It means more detailed adjustment based on the environment.
