Default Upgrade suggestions for '13 S'Crew with Sony/Nav?

OK all you stereo fanatics and experts! Need suggestions for upgrading the sound in my 2013 King Ranch SuperCrew with factory Nav/Sony stereo. Really want to keep the factory head unit for integration purposes and upgrade everything else. I have 2 sets of Fosgate 5x7 two-way plate speakers still in the box laying around if they'll work in the doors and was thinking something like an Audiocontrol unit or JL Cleansweep with a good 5 channel amp and a JL sub... want it to sound really clean and nice tight bass, not a competition system or monster bass--I'm old but still like to crank up my classic rock or '90s alternative... Would like to keep the total cost of components to around $2000 or less.

Have the general idea I think... just wanting to get specific suggestions of what works and what doesn't from those who have done it.

Do you have the little sub under the back seat? Looks like the new Ford OEM Kicker upgrade is serving people well. For $300 it's basically plug and play with having to tap 2 wires and run a power cable. Check out Rogel Ford's thread.

Upgrade sub and use your 5x7 upgrades should be a nice change.

Funny you mention that--I just found that link and read through it last night... right now I'm planning on ordering the sub and amp to replace my POS Sony sub and slapping in the Fosgate door speakers and see how it sounds--if inadequate I'm only out $300.

I think you will happy. I always encourage folks to go that route first. I know that is what I have done in my last two F150's and have always been happy with the results.

I just had a JL Audio 8w3v3 microsub installed with an Alpine MRV-M500 amp to replace my Factory Sony setup. I was looking at the Kicker upgrade as well, but I ended up going this route. It was $600 installed. Its definitely an enormous upgrade over stock, its not going to win competitions but I wasn't looking to do that. I don't even crank the bass full max either, as it certainly thumps enough for me about halfway up.

I also had 4 Alpine SPR-68 coaxial speakers put in all 4 doors. I kept my headunit. Grand total out the door was about $1000 parts and install and its a completely different, clear and heavy sound. The bass stops and starts as tight as I've ever heard. I listen to a lot of heavier music with a lot of double bass drumming, and it stays right with it.

The major selling point of the Kicker upgrade for me would have been that it would remain looking factory. The Microsub is just a box jammed under the seat, but after a while you don't even notice it.
