Polk DB's are excellent, very clean and clear. They also improved my low end ( it WAS a Dodge though...). I'll be replacing the speakers in my Ford with the Polk DB's.

I am doing a complete system in my truck as cash allows,and installed JL Audio C5 components in my front doors and A-pillars today.What a difference!! I haven't changed the the speekers in the rear yet,and you can just change the balence from front to rear and hear the difference.I will be mounting my amp and running the wires for it and the sub so that when i get my new headunit it will be ready to plug up.I can't wait to hear them with the rest of my system hooked up.

I felt the same way when I bought my 2012 Supercrew. I personally think the mid's/highs sound great but there is ZERO bass. I'm not one for the window shaking but I added this little guy under my back seat. It's an 8" JL Audio sub in a vented box. Trust me when I say you will NOT be disappointed. I kept the factory head and added the following...
[1] Installed 4 Infinity 2 way speakers. The sound was better, but not great.
[2] Installed Alpine 500W mono sub amp + 2, 10" Kenwood subs and sub-box under rear seat. Sounded good, but not great.
[3] Installed Alpine 4 channel amp (50x4) + Audio Control, Four.1 (parametric) equalizer.
Now, the system sounds great. It has a full sound range + Kicking bass + un-distorted sound for as loud as I can stand it + powerful bass and crisp highs at low volume.
It is the best audio sound system that I have ever owned. I'm very happy + I have full Sync function and steering wheel control functionality.

I had to download the volume control adjustment tool from the "Sync My Ride" website. With the amplified system, the Sync lady was yelling at me prior to the volume adjustment download (reminded me of my wife). Sync volume level is perfect now.

If you have a big decrease in bass response, you probably got your polarity backwards on one or both speakers. Go back and check and make sure you hooked them up correctly.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the factory EQ curve is designed for the mass produced factory speakers that are installed. A significant part of the sound relies on the EQ of the headunit.
Replacing the headunit or using a unit such as an Audison Bitone or a JL Cleanswap in conjuction with a factory headunit will also make a big difference in quality.

My 2012 system sucked too... big time. Like many, this was the only real problem with my truck. I tried upgrading the speakers only at first... just replaced the stock 5x7's with aftermarket ones (Arc Audio). It still sounded like crap... maybe a 40% improvement at best. But 40% better than crap was still crap.
After that, I decided to go for it. I installed a 700 w amp (I think), 2 10" Kicker Competition subs under the back seat, and also put in an LC6, which I guess is an equivalent to a JL clean sweep. Obviously, that big of an investment improved the quality exponentially, but I still notice that with some of the music I listen to (metal mostly) the mids are missing. And with the factory HU still in place, I have no control over the mids... only treble and bass.
It's fine for now, but I will be replacing the HU at some point to complete the system.
Keep in mind though that based on my experience, upgrading the speakers alone will not provide you the sound quality you want... it still sounds like shyte.

Not 100% accurate.It depends on which speekers you use.I'm going to upgrade my entire system,but i have only installed my JL C-5's in the doors and a-pillars and can say they were well worth the $$ spent. Those alone in my truck made WAY more difference in sound quality and sound level than i ever dreamed.My boss added a amp,sub,and replaced all his door speekers and when we compaired how they sound mine is MUCH better in the mids and crystal clear.I was leary of spending that much on a set of speekers,but i can tell you they are worth every penny.I can't wait till i get the rest of my system installed and get some power to them WITH a good head unit.I think i actually sold 3 sets of these speekers this week for JL after the guys i work with listened to mine.

@tufcat I'm looking to do just what you described. I have purchased 4 replacement RF speakers for stock locations, as well as a RF Punch 12 so I can keep some underseat space. That said, can you or someone else tell me what hte best way to wire up a 4 channel amp to the factory spots? Don't I have to get a converter of some type to make it work with the stock HU?
