Tweeter Add On?
So i was wondering, i have 6x8 infinitys brand new in the box sitting in my closet. I was wondering if they sell seperate crossovers and tweeters that i could add to to the infinitys that i already have? Now that i'm thinking about it i dont think i could because they are two way speakers that have the tweeter already built on to them? I dont know, can someone shed some light on the subject? -Josh

Are there kits out there that you can buy just the crossover and tweeter? I just remembered right now that i bought infinity crossovers from a garage sale. They were new that were extras or something. Sweet, now i just need tweeters lol. Thanks Bluecountry!

First Tiger of G.R.O.S.S.
eBay: $62

Sonicelectronics: $12 (built in crossover)

My point was not those are the ones you should get. The question was "do they make kits"... the answer is yes.
Sonic has a whole section on just them... http://www.sonicelectronix.com/cat_i32_tweeters.html

Right, you can just tap into the speaker wires. That's wiring your speakers in parallel, though, and will drop your ohm rating a bit. I don't think it's enough to damage your receiver, but something to consider.
Personally, I'd go with 2-way crossovers. They will divide up the frequencies, sending mids and lows to the door speakers and highs to the new tweets. There are two advantages to this: Since the frequencies are split between speakers instead of shared, the ohm rating of each setup will stay the same. And, of course, your imaging will be a lot better. Instead of the door speakers fighting for attention with their own built-in tweeters, all the highs will only go to the separate tweeters and bring the sound image up higher where it should be.
But if your goal is simplicity and overall LOUDNESS, then running all tweeters at the same time will be a little louder. To each their own...
