Default Thoughts on Possible Audio Upgrade for 2013 FX4 Supercab

I currently have the Sony system in my 2013 FX4.

I stopped by a local car audio shop this weekend to discuss a possible system upgrade. This is what they recommended:
The total for install, with Roadkill sound deadening for the doors, would be ~$2,000.

That is significantly more than I want to spend. Is this system worth that price? I am not looking for a system that you can hear from blocks away. I just want something that will sound better than the stock Sony system.

that sub is already amplified in the box I believe so you don't even need the amp.. and jl is a bit of overkill for just an upgrade from the stock system. look into Rockford fosgate a bit cheaper still amazing quality

Here's an alternative.... I'm using most of this equipment personally and it sounds amazing! By the way, not sure what their plan is regarding the door speakers. I see you linked a set of JL 6X8's which I'm assuming are for the front doors. However, then there is a link to a separate JL tweeter??? Also, I don't see anything for the rear doors. Take a look at the items below. You won't be disappointment! I feel like an NVX spokesman or saleman, but I just can't help recommending them. Products are awesome, and prices are great. Total price comes out to be about $210.00 less than what your shop recommended. For less money, you're getting 2 8" subs for the rear, new coaxials for the rear doors, and a set of components for the front doors. I'm using the exact amp and subs in my setup, and they are both phenomenal. The amp is out of stock at Sonic, but is available through NVX or Amazon. Good luck!

What do you not like about the Sony and want to upgrade? I am aware that they are lacking but do you want more power, more bass or what? Then you can start with upgrades one at a time....

I'd really just like more clarity. The Sony has plenty of power for my taste, but it seems to lose quality at about 50% volume.

You're welcome. The issue with most OEM stereos is they simply have a very limited amount of power. Therefore, once you turn them up past a certain point you start to get a lot of distortion. As another member mentioned, you can always upgrade in stages as well. However, if it's in the budget I usually recommend getting everything installed in one shot. I think the amp & speakers I linked are hard to beat in their price range. The subs are bit expensive, but it does fit really nice under the back seat and it sounds great! Good luck and keep us posted with updates.

Start with replacing the more efficient speakers. Add an amp then if you aren't happy.

So start with the door speakers and tweeters, or can I run coaxial speakers in the front and back and leave the stock tweeters and center speaker for now?
