I have a similar pioneer HU as well. The D3. It is a love hate relationship. I love it, but frankly I think the menu / screen navigation is terrible. You have one of the largest touch screens on the market and you have to go through 3, 4 5 and sometimes 6 menus to get to something. Terrible. The Sirius screen is the WORST. For example....the song title...will display, but not the artist, genre...etc. There is at least 25% of the screen blank and avaible for use yest all you see is the song name....and even then if it is a long name...you only see half of it. Want to see the artist...push "DISP" and you see that...keep pushing that button. Each push displays somethign diferent everytime. Combined...all of that info could have been on the screen at one time. It may be a Sirius thing....but the rest of the untis design is the same. I just find navigating through the thousands of menus terrible.
What makes it worse is that they factory has the unit set up so that half of the buttons do not work unless parked. That is easily bypassed with the bypass hack, but why is it that they do not want you watching this screen for extended periods of time(keep your eyes on the road!) yet they make the menus, which ARE avaiable while driving....5 deep....so you spend more time pushing buttons than driving. I am exaggerating...but only slightly.
I am installing a new system as diagramed above. I am SERIOUSLY thinking about putting in a new unit. But the one I want is $1800 and I have not had any hands on experience with it so I need to do that so that I dont purcahse the same exact problems with the new HU.

i have an alpine headunit, but getting a flipout dvd in about 2 months, ipod cord in the glove box. 4 infinity door speakers and an alpine 4-channel amp running 125watts to each door. 2 12in kenwood excelon subs under the back seat and a 1000watt hifonics brutus amp running the subs. rockford fosgate wiring all the way around.
this thing thumps like a sludge hammer its rediculous
my friends dad is a cop and just to see what kind of Db i was running we used his db reader and i was hitting 148 Db at 3/4 volume, past that it just gets distorted
anybody want advice on sound system just ask, i installed it all myself and im only 17 had it in bout a year now

Well since I'm in the process of doing the stereo now, here goes. I just bought a eclipse headunit cd-3200 with three sets of outputs with one dedicated for subs and one aux input for future dvd monitors in the headrests. Replaced all four door speakers with rockford power series 6x8 and got a alphasonik reference series sub off ebay for under the rear seat. Going with one sub for know unless it is not enough. Looking for a good 4 channel amp yet and already have a audiobahn a8000 mono block amp for the sub.

I have diverged from my original plans posted in this forum earlier but my system is COMPLETE! i wound up with the Pioneer 7000BT in the dash w/ ipod cord run to cubby hole in bottom of dash. alpine pdx 4.100 running all my doors which are infinity kappa 5x7. for low end i put a kicker 750.1 in there to run my 15" Kicker cvx (beats like a mother! ha ha) all in all it's exactly what i wanted from my system. i can hear the music and everyone else can too!! hahaha
