Audio System Upgrade
I've been doing a lot of reading here and I'm looking for opinions on the following. Hopefully, I haven't overlooked anything obvious. Ideally I'd have another set of speakers and a 5 channel amp but that blows through the budget I'm working with ($400.00 give or take). Maybe later... I want to keep the stock head unit in place w/sync.
Anyway here it is:
JL Audio TR570-CXi (two for the front)
Kenwod KAC-8405 (2 channels for front speakers other two for sub)
Kicker TC104 sub
I plan on keeping the stock speakers in the rear for now either turned off or very low volume. I'm not looking for huge booming base and listen mostly to soft rock, alternative.
Any thoughts you guys have would be appreciated.

Definitely go for components in the front.
Try the Pioneer Premier TS-D720C should be able to get them for $120-150 online. Here's a review: http://www.pioneerusa.com/ephox/Stat...E720Review.pdf
Lower budget comps with good review are the Pheonix Gold RSD 6.5s and the Cadence 6.5s
See if you can find a deal on a Kenwood Excelon KAC-X4R, you'll get about double the power - 100Wx2 for the front and 300W for the sub (all RMS). I got mine for around $200 shipped. (You will need a LOC since it doesn't have speaker level inputs)
Look at the JBL GTO 10 and the Infinity Reference 10s for quality low budget subs. The Peerless XXLS and Dayton HO are a good next step from there.

Thanks GatorB8. I want the sub to go under the seat in the back of my 2010 scab so looks like I need to rethink the sub. I did some measurements and roughly 7 inches to the bottom of the front of the rear seat. Shallow mount maybe? I wouldn't mind building a box for it if that's the way it had to go. It's a shame about the sub, the ones you suggested both looked very nice.
I looked for the amp you suggested, but, the only one I could find @ $200.00 price point was a refurb. and I got burnt on the last refurbished electronic toy I bought. I'll keep hunting.
If I get an amp that needs LOC how "cheap" of one can I get by with.
In regards to the component speakers, I just can't bring myself to put a hole the size of a golf ball+ in my door.
Thanks for the help...

The Dayton HO and the older model Infinity (http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...nce_1050W.aspx) will fit in one of these: http://www.supercrewsound.com/commer...d=373&catId=56
I went with a LOC from www.davidnavone.com based off of recommendations on an audio forum. His 4 channels start at $35.
You should be able to find a 5.25-6" component set that will all fit in the 6x8 opening, you could make or buy an adapter like this: http://www.autotoys.com/x/catalog/SP...ON-p-1775.html

Thanks! Plenty to look at. I know what I'll be doing for awhile this evening.... more reading and of course figuring up the damage to my wallet.
Edit: BTW, I had no idea the adapter at autotoys existed.

Yeah, you can get them on ebay for half that, but this forum wont let you direct link to auctions. You can actually buy what are called plate speakers that are pre made like that. I would still go with components for a quality external crossover and more selection though.

When your looking at different items, search for the model number on diyma.com and caraudiomag.com to look for some quality reviews.

Okay, I'm trying this again w/some changes & would like a sanity check if someone would be kind enough to help.
Alpine MRP-F600 Amp
Alpine SWS-1043D 10" 4 ohm DVC Sub
Kenwood KFC-P680C Component speakers for front
Subbox for under one back seat from ebay.
Still running rear stock speakers at low volume.
I can get this done for $525.00 +/-. It's the best I can do and still get something I "think" I'd be happy with.
Hopefully all of this will work together. I believe the Amp is sufficient for what I'm wanting to do which is run one channel each to the component speakers and bridge two channels to power the amp.
What confuses me a bit is the dual coil sub. I've read about it and thought about it and still not sure if this sub or the 2ohm version would be better.
Edit: I'll still have to get some sound dampening for the doors I think. When I crank up the stock speakers just a little bit a get vibration in the doors. Drives me crazy...

Amp looks good. But you will need a 4 ohm load for your sub, so you have two choices:
4 ohm SVC
2 ohm DVC (VCs wired in series give you 2+2=4 ohms)
Check out sounddeadenershowdown.com and raamat.com for some good deadener reading.
I would look for a set of components in the front that can handle around 60-80W RMS. Some headroom in the amp is good to prevent distortion, but you're leaving 60W of unused power when you go with the 40W RMS Kenwoods.
