Sounds like a typical, ignorant car shop guy. Not all are like that but a scary number are.

You could do a 2 or 4 channel amp with a good set of front speakers and it has the potential to sound great. You just need to do a good job installing the speakers and sealing up/deadening the doors.

The stock Ford speakers are GARBAGE! Worst factory sound system I've ever heard. Just a speaker replacement with some separate power would be great.
There's a PAC OEM harness that will let you plug the amp right into the factory stereo with no cutting. I'm getting one today and I will post up how that works out. I've used the same thing in other cars and it makes aftermarket integration super easy.
I just need to find some instructions on how to pop the stock radio out.

p.s. I haven't looked yet but you might be able to fit an amp under your front seats. I can understand storage under the rear seats but why behind?

Sorry I should have said UNDER and not behind. I didnt even know there was much space behind the back seats. I have only had the truck for a week or two and thus far the sound system is the worst part. I will try another local store (i have zero install skills) and see what they suggest.

I was wondering what kind of work equipment you were throwing behind the rear seats. You'll be able to fit a full size two or four channel amp behind the seat. If your definietly against loosing underseat room to a sub, get some 6.5" or 6x8 components for the front doors and just amp them. Look for a set with good low end frequency extension and seal up the doors to improve the bass response.

Ok let me ask you this (keep in mind I know nothing about the equipment). When I go into the shop what should I exactly be asking for? I gotta assume I can trust you guys more than what the shop will say.

If you have the time to research and learn you can do it yourself. No preexisting skills needed.

As for what to ask the shop... that's a really tough question. I would first find out who is reputable in your area and go to them with your budget and that you just want to improve your front stage and keep your stock head unit.
