Is there a way to disable text message notifications?

When I first bought my truck the texts didn't work, I tried to activate it with no luck. Then out of the blue it started working one day. Then I did a sync update and it stopped working again which I'm happy about, wasn't a fan of it. Great feature but not to me.

I like the bluetooth for calling, but just want to disable text notifications. Never know what kind of text I may receive with certain people in the truck.

On my old phone (HTC EVO 4G LTE) the text notification did not work, but now that I got a new phone (Google Nexus 5), it all of a sudden works.

If it's not possible, o well.

I'm not positive but I think there is a setting onboard in the sync menu that disables it but again it's just a loose memory that says so. Check the owners manual for more information.

I know there's a setting on my iphone under settings/Bluetooth, click the "I" beside Sync and you can enable/disable "show notifications". I also know there's a setting in the car stereo under Bluetooth I believe, on my 4.2" screen on a 2013.
