I very seriously doubt you are overpowering them, especially If they are the dual 2ohm versions.

Considering that amp is not stable under 1ohm, I will assume each V.C. is wired in series , then both the subs wired in parallel. This would leave you with a 2ohm load. Thats really your only option, besides a .5ohm or >8ohm. note: your amp isn't stable at .5ohms

So assuming the amp is rated correctly (which probably isnt so, more than likely overrated) you would have 900x 1 at 2ohms. This is only at MAX volume and probably with a >4v signal. So for the average listening volume they wont even be close to the max of 400 for each. Even with a 4v pre out and volume cranked to the max, your subs would only be receiving about 450 watts each. Since the sub can handle ~400 I don't think this should be an issue.

That amp only has a 120amp fuse rating, so I would logically think its over rated a little bit.

This is how you should have them wired for an 8ohm load:

Your going to be around 225w output.

IMO its really too much amp for those subs given you need to run it at 8ohms. A 500/600w 2ohm stable amp with the drivers wired for 2 ohms would have been perfect.

If they are wired at 2ohms I would say that amp at 900w is too much power for those drivers if he's cranking it up. RMS is 200/400 peak. I suppose with inefficiencies that might be ok..I would have chosen a different amp.

Uh oh, are me and Joe disagreeing on something? Or did I misread the specs.

I saw that each woofer was 400rms each, not 200 each?

Might be a first I mis-read too...it says 100-400 RMS which is confusing. Is it 100 RMS/400 peak??

**Edit** checked sonic and its says 250 RMS/450 peak.

From that link; i got they were 100-400 rated rms per sub.

Hence, me saying it was a close match at 2ohms.

However, if that is both subs combined, I confer with Joe and agree that is to much power. Something the alpine MRP-500 (500x1 @2) would be perfect.

There is no such thing as an amp that has to much power... There is however such thing as an amp that isn't setup properly for the subs that it is powering. Turn the bass boost and/or the gain down if you're pushing them too hard. Start there before you start buying stuff you don't need.

This is true to a point. There are many factors to consider (clean source, overall install, gain matching, driver efficiency, etc) when setting up a system especially when powering drivers past their rated specs. Mechanical limits can be exceeded with "too much power" if the system is not tuned/installed correctly.

Safer way to go is run them at 8ohms. There will be a loss of db but the amp will run cooler, you wont be pushing the drivers as hard and the system should last a long time. My estimate of 225w is low for sure as its really not linear division.

I didnt suggest that the OP run out an buy a new amp. I would have used something closer to the drivers rated specs - but that's just my opinion
