Look at the Kicker replacements. You can find them on ebay for less than $300. Only takes up a little more room than the stock Sony sub and sounds so much better!

Trust me I would have loved to switch out the stock, but I have a scab, so not as much room as i would have wanted to put some new ones in.
What year truck is it? Is the amp attached to the sub? To test it you would need to hook up another speaker. No sound means bad amp. I would think that with it starting to hit hard then nothing that the amp is bad.

I also have a 2012, I've since upgraded my sony system....but what you will find is the sony sub under the rear seat is only the woofer. Power for the sub is coming from a multi-channel brain unit DSP amp under the center console of your truck. Typically on the forum this is call the sony amp, but it does much more for your audio system.

2 options, either the sony amp is going bad...that means expensive replacement....or the woofer speaker has gone bad...and that's a much less expensive component to replace.

If all your other speaker/voice/bluetooth/nav functions are working correctly, it may be a better option to replace the factory sub with an aftermarket setup.

For example, here's the only oem one on ebay:

I would think if you have a multi-meter you should be able to read ohm or voltage output from the sony amp. I would start at the subwoofer side of the plug before tearing out the center console

The grey plug (closet to the sony letters) is where the subwoofer is connected using the 4 wires listed in the diagram.
