Subs cutting out
I was just wondering what would cause my subs to cut out. I have a Pioneer amp, it's only 300 watts, powering two cheap 12's. It sounds decent, but if I turn it up too high the subs just cut out. Now I know this setup isn't ideal, and I'm looking to upgrade, but for now I'd just like to know what causes it. Does an amp just cut out if it can't provide enough power? Or is it something else like a bad ground?

well is rare for a pioneer amp to do that but but depends how old it is check your ground how thick are your wires and if its a older model yeah if they dont have a integrated fan they overheat and it will just shut off

check your ohms some amps are not 2 or 1 ohm stabel.if you bridge amp 1 chanell it drops your ohms and the way you wire your subs 2 4ohm subs are 2 ohms or 8 ohms so your amp might be playing at 1 ohm.

that's what i kinda figured...i unhooked one and it's running ok. i'm on the look-out for a 1,000 watt amp, and maybe a pair of Pioneer, RF, etc. 12's.

My pioneer amp cuts out as a saftey, if it gets too hot, if it's having trouble pushing the sub or if the subs coil gets too hot and runs crappy... setups gay compared to what I useta have but it does the job and my friends say it sound great... I useta have two eclipse titanium 12's with a kenwood 1200watt amp, and that was retarded, couldn't breath when those were pumpin air... now I try to push my Sony 10"(400rms) with a mini 750 pioneer amp (300rms) and in the summer with that thing cranked it'll cut out... I've adjusted it since so it doesn't... and I think if I didn't sell the eclipse's to my buddy out of my car, I wouldn't have any windows in my truck... Or ears left...

that's another possibility. i don't remember exactly what gauge it is, i just bought one of those kits. i think it was rated up to 500 watts. hopefully i'll find a more powerful amp and upgrade the wiring with it.

Run at least 4 gauge and you'll be good to go any amp you put in and won't have to deal with it again unless your going competition sized. Plus you'll know it's not the size of the wire anymore.
