Default sub questions

so I'm having a real PIA time trying to get my 10" sub to fit. I bailed on the last box because it was too thick.

So this time im going with downfiring and recessed the speaker but was curious how much clearance I needed between the sub and carpet and how much clearance behind the sub and box?

box i built, i recessed up 1.5" from floor, used two shallow subs in that box and still had about 1.5" of rear clearance. Also, keep in mind it depends on the box design.
