I would like to know if anyone has installed an aftermarket stereo (hed unit) and still have it wired to the steering wheel for full functionality?

Welcome Nikita!!
I've done MANY aftemarket radios and to keep the functionality of the steering wheel controls you'll have to get a separate wiring harness unless it's included with the cd player that you're buying.
