Default Is a new crossover needed when replacing OEM component speakers?

As the title asked, is it necessary to use the new crossover that came with my Focal component speaker/tweeter for the fronts or can I just replace the tweeter in the pillar and driver in the door and call it good? I'm assuming there is a factory crossover somewhere but don't know if I need to switch it out.

Thanks in advance.

Use the crossover. Factory most likely uses a capacitor to block the bass going to the tweeter.

You need to find the specs on the factory crossover and compare that to the recommended crossover for your new component speakers.

You're installing Focal speakers for a reason, I'd say you know the correct answer is the crossovers.

It's been pretty much covered, already. Both speakers and rossovers are pretty complex creatures when you start looking at them in detail. In the end, what reaches your ear is the sum of what the crossover does, and what the speaker does, and to some extent how they interact. Unless you know what you're doing, I typically suggest going with the complete system the manufacture provides.

General consensus seems to be use the new crossover. Does anyone know how I would install? I can't find any mention of a factory crossover. HEad unit has separate wiring for tweeter and driver so if I would use driver wiring to go to new crossover and split there, I may not have any "high" signal going to the new crossover.

There in lies the problem with factory set ups. You have a system that already has the speakers crossed over so you need to go directly to the tweeters without the new crossover.

Finally finished install. After talking to several installers, I was informed that the front door speakers get a full-range signal (including highs) so I installed crossover on that set of wires then went from crossover to tweeters and new door driver. Sounds good. Did not use existing tweeter wires.

I have a pair of JL C5-570s and I'm going to try to do the same thing. Where did you put the cross-overs, and (most important) where did you tap into the door speaker wire? I pulled of the pillar, and it's wired into a huge bundle that goes who knows where. Thanks in advance for your help.

I put the driver's side xover under dash and passenger side in kick panel behind fuse panel. I tied into door speaker wires right where they start to go vertical from rocker to kick panel on both sides. The driver's side was a huge bundle. Also, the 2010AUDIO wire diagrams that are 14 pages and floating around on this forum have the opposite polarity for 2013's. I was perplexed and ended up going to Bestbuy where one of their installers was nice enough to pull up the correct one on their high $ software.
