I've searched for this particular question, but don't see anything on it.

Has anyone replaced JUST the sub speaker inside the Sony factory box? Would that make a difference? I'm not an audiophile, so I don't want to spend hundereds of $'s to add a new sub and amp. But, If replacing the factory 8" sub speaker alone would help, I'd be up for it.

I haven't seen anyone that has replaced the speaker itself. Is it even possible to take the factory box apart? Most stuff the box with some foam fill from a pillow and that helps.

I'd like to know if there is a drop in improvement as well. I did the polyfil. I could tell a difference, but not night and day.

im sure a sws sub would work but IMO its not the sub its the lack of power going to it therefore you will never get much more out of it or a new driver.
