I really would like to mount my amps vertically on the back wall of my reg cab, however the manual says to only mount horizontally which is really annoying me trying to get a clean look. So why do they insist they are mounted horizontally? Do people ignore this ever?

That can be tricky, depends on the manufacturer's reason. What kind of amp? And model number?

The reason is typically cooling. Heat exchange for some designs is less effective in certain positions. At least that's my theory.

Does the amp have an internal fan?
How hard are you going to drive the amps? Do you live in hot weather?

They have thermal protection so try vertical and if they shut down you have your answer.

I confer with Guiness and Joe,
The typical reason for non-vertical applications is;
Most heat-sinks are on 2-3 edges of the amp, so logically if you mount the amp vertically that heat is going to rise and go right back over the top of your amp. If its in a well ventilated area, or you have fans around it(pushing hot air away), that shouldn't be an issue.
