Default Replaceing stock speakers but keeping stock head unit

Im curious if aftermarket speakers will sound good or not with the stock head unit... I know in my stang with the stock 460 head unit and after market speakers it was sorta crappy and same with aftermarket head unit and stock speakers... Distorted and garbled when turned up... Well i have the same issues with my 08 f150? Plain 6 disc changer no audiophile... Eventually ill wire in some subs but for now i just want better clearer louder sound

Aftermarket speakers will sound a little better, but there will be little to no bass from them. The speakers will more than likely have a high pass filter on them that will remove the low end signals.

To get a clear, decent sound, you should put an amp on the 4 door speakers and a powered sub for your lows. You can do this for a relatively low price if you shop around. I would also look at a JL Audio Cleansweep or something like it to get rid off the horrible signals the stock HU is putting out.

The clean sweep would be for the subs or the door speakers?

You should hook it up to run all speakers.

Any aftermarket speakers are going to sound better than the stock ones. I would suggest replacing the door speakers first. There are a lot of suggestions here on this forum. Then I would add a sub. You might be happy with that solution before replacing the whole system.

Oh ok i wasnt sure if just cleaned up high for the doors or just lows for the subs... I like keeping the stock head unit just for grins and giggles and with the stock wiring and amps in place in the stang it just didnt sound good even with a after market head unit... Hopefully i can do it with this truck and it sound good... Thanks

Install the PAC AOEM-FRD24. A PNP install. No cutting/splicing of wires.
still can keep the factory look.

I can tell you that i've been upgrading my base system a piece at a time, and i'm VERY happy with my choice of speakers for the doors.I ended up with JL Audio C5 components, and with only the stock headunit they sounded better than i ever expected with no amp. After adding a Jl Audio amp to power them and a Jl W1 10'' sub,i'm amaized at how good it sounds. While they (the 5x7 speakers) don't give you the super low bass of a sub, they are clear as a bell and pretty deep. Also with just adding those speakers, you volume will dang near double with the same setting on the headunit. If i was going to build another system,i'd definately buy the same speakers again.Next month i'll be changing out my head unit for an indash GPS so it should sound even better, but with the stock headunit i'm pleased with the sound.
