Default Recommended amp

I know all you guys that have the audio knowledge probably get sick of questions like this but here we are. Decided to finally do my system in my truck and I've decided on 2 10" PBX subs. Peak 600W and RMS 300W, 4 Ohms, what size/type amp shouldI use to power these? I'm not brand loyal when it comes to my amp but I don't want to break the bank on it either. Thanks for the help

It's dual voice coil, here's the link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=p5197.c0.m619

I wouldn't mind spending up to maybe a couple hundred bucks but I'm not doing anything extreme with it so I would probably prefer a bang for your buck type amp.

And PBX is a brand off Powerbass and me and my buddies have always had real good luck with them so unless someone has something extremely bad to say about them, that's what I would like to go with.

Look for a Class D Mono amp that is capable of 600W-750W RMS @ 1 ohm.

Thanks alot I'll look for one of those. Any specific brands I should be looking for, or staying away from?

I'm still learning but I don't need two channels even though I'm going to have two subs? Or does a mono amp have two channels?

You wire the subs together for a mono amplifier.
Here is how to wire them for a 4-ohm load (which is what I recommend):

And here is for wiring them at 1-ohm:

I used to have a Diamond amplifier that ran 2 subs at 1-ohm, about like what you would need. It was a great amp. Right now I've got an Alpine running two subs at 4-ohms and it sounds fantastic.

o wow that makes sense, is there an advantage to using the momo amp over a two channel amp?

I use Memphis, and have never been proved wrong for their awesome AMPS, I have one 10" in my truck it sounds better than my buddy's 12's!

I have had better experience/sound from mono amps running subwoofers, BUT for cost efficiency, you could wire your subs to 4-ohms and then bridge a 2-channel amp to get the power you want (and still get really quality sound, depending on the amp)

Like my dad always says... "It only costs a little bit more to go first class."

Most 2 channel amps are Class A/B, most monos are Class D. Class D is significantly more power efficient than A/B amps, there is a sacrifice of THD going to class D, but it has minimal effect at lower frequencies. You should be able to find a Class D capable of 600W @ 1 ohm at a lower price point than an A/B 2 channel capable of 600W bridged at 4 ohms.

Only RMS power ratings matter, disregard Peak or Max listings. I'd stay away from bargain basement brands like Boss or Crunch. Normally buying a well known brand (i.e. Kenwood, Pioneer, Alpine, Kicker) will get you a decent amp that will last for the lowest price.
