Default 2013 Metra Kit Install......with issues

I ordered and got the 2013 Metra Kit for the F150 XLT and higher trims. The Center stack is nice and looks good installed. The placement of the radio and HVAC controls aren't my favorite, but it's the only choice.

The wiring kit went together fine. I installed the radio to ensure proper operation and it worked fine. I went to mount the radio and found the kit supplied hardware doesn't fit the Ford dash. I will attempt to get it straightened out this week, but I was pretty pissed that a $300 kit didn't fit in the most basic area. I hope that it was just the wrong mount put into the box and that they have a correct piece. Sucks working twice on a project.

Here is the clearance issue. I tried every angle and switched sides, it isn't right and will not work. I would cut is to fit, but both the piece and the truck plastic appear to need the plastic. The receiver is pretty heavy to cut down the only thing holding it to the truck.

I got the kit that Crutchfield includes with a head unit purchase and was thinking the same thing. But the instructions that came with the kit had a step to cut a piece of plastic in order to fit the factory mounting holes....the instructions were so poor it took me a while to figure out what was necessary. Mind you, I have a 2011 F-150 but just wanted to point it out that the instructions that came with the kit suck...and it may be possible there might be some sort of modification they are calling for in order to get it to fit right.

Unless you are doing a complete HU relocation, I believe you are mounting in the wrong location. Maybe I am misreading your comments, etc. Based on the one pic you have, you should be up at the pre-drilled holes above where the HU is currently sitting.

Yeah, the holes you want are visible on the upper left hand portion of your picture. Looks like to me that you are trying to use the wrong ones.

His is a 2013, which I thought the HU went lower on the dash than previous models...

I can't imagine it goes that low. You'd never be able to see or operate the touch screen correctly sitting that low

His installation is correct. It is an unfortunate side effect of Metra's design for the kit. For some reason they have to retain the original 4.2" screen.

Wow didn't realize that. It's going to be pretty difficult to operate a touchscreen with it sitting that low on the dash
