Default Project Focal underway...

My Focal 165vb's came in today. I only had time to do the passenger side tonight. My MDF bracket turned out perfect, and my dremel in the factory tweeter location turned out great as well. Driver side should be easy now that I made a template. I am upgrading to these 6.5 components from some JBL 5.25 components. I hope it's noticeable enough to justify.

Now for the rear doors. I couldn't beat the price so I grabbed two sets of these 6.5 sets. I'm not worried about the tweeter install in the rear door, I am however concerned about the woofer size. Has anyone successfully put 6.5 speakers in the rear door? Should I even bother trying?

Pics will come when I'm done.

Shouldn't be a problem. Ran some pretty deep Massive's in the rear on 1/2" mdf baffles w/no issues.

Sweet. That's what I'm using front and rear - 1/2 inch. Front was a breeze. I'm hoping my 50x4 amp runs these Focals okay. They're rated at 70 rms.

I'm looking forward to pics and review of the Focals. I am considering some Focals also. Which ones are the best bang for the buck? I was looking as the PS165. I already have all my components from a prior vehicle, so all I need is components for the doors. I don't mind spending a fair amount for good sound quality.

I've always been an Alpine, Polk, and Infinity guy. And while they're all respectable, there is that next level up. You always read mixed reviews on major store brands. But read reviews on Focal, Hertz, etc. People just seem to rave about them.

I will add this. I only got the passenger door done last night. So I'm riding today with Focal on the right and JBL on the left. Extremely noticeable difference. But more reviews to come once I'm done.

As far as money I searched for an in stock discontinued model. That's when I found the 165vb. Saved $200-$300 per pair.

Front doors are done. Man these things are bright and crisp! Can't wait to get the rears done but that'll be a few days. Here's how it went. Pretty crude job on my brackets but they're perfectly functional. And hidden.

Focal 6.5 replaced JBL 5.25

Interested to see how this turns out, as I have a set of 165KPs that I am thinking of using in the truck.

Do you have the standard stereo or the Nav system?

I have the Nav system. The Focals turned out really nice. Sound incredible. I have 150 watts RMS on each door.

Do you use the factory wiring for the speaker and tweeter? or did you use the crossover and run a new line to the tweeter?
