It sounds alot like a spider ripped off the former man it happens alot when u play low notes on a sub and there working really hard to reach there Xmax and a tear developes like in anything flexible it has limits. The way u chek Wich sub is to test them individually, if it is a torn spider it will Doit outside the box too. And it's very hard too see unless you kno what to look for. But I will point u in the direction.
Once u have found the sub that's doing it take it out and get it to a place with good light. Look for what is called the spider Wich is the part that is under the cone of the sub it looks black or yellow and has ripples in it and is glued to the frame of the sub "it also moves when the sub plays" in the center of the spider is where the cone is attached to the spider and former. "former is underneath the cone and spider and can't be seen it's what the voice coil is bassicly" look around this area for a hair line crack usually. It may be necessary to move the subwoofers suspension as if were playing all the way outward to open up a crack to be seen.
This has happened too me before. The sub will still play but it sounds like something is tapping or poping

Also the torn spider will not show up on a meter because it has nothing to do with the voice coil(s).

U can clearly see what the spider is attached too

Lightbulb Just a thought...

It may be something really simple. My subs were doing the same thing about 2-3 weeks ago. My system had shifted a little, and jerked some cables... my ground cable became a little loose. First thing I would definitely do, even if it sounds ridiculous is check all of your cables and make sure your power, ground, and ignition cables are especially connected securely. Hopefully the simplest thing like this will be the fix, because any damaged failed equipment always sucks to have to replace. Good luck!
