Default Pioneer Head Unit with Pac C2R-FRD1

Hey everyone! It's been a while since I've installed any aftermarket head unit's and i've got a few questions, specifically with the wiring harness.

I've got a 2011 Super-crew without sync + adding Pioneer AVH-X4800BS.

On the truck side I've got these wires left -

Red w/ white stripe
Purple w/ white stripe
Solid Green. These 3 wires tied together with a piece of tape.

Green w/ white stripe = Steering. I will not need this.
Solid Blue.

On the Head Unit side i've got -

Purle w/ White stripe = Reverse Gear Signal
Yellow w/ black stripe = Mute
Solid Green

1. Why are those 3 specific wires taped together?
2. What is the red w/ white stripe wire and where does it go?
3. I assume the purple w/ white stripe wires go together. What are they for?
4. I assume the Solid Greens go together. Is this my parking brake signal?
5. Where does my MUTE wire go?
6. I assume the solid blue's go together. What are they for?

Sorry I wont be much help, but I can tell you couple things. First never assume that the same colored wires go together. Never. Second your reverse gear signal wire on the head unit is to tell the HU to switch over to the backup camera if you have one. Mute wire can be left unhooked.

Thanks for the reply! Half of me wanted to document this and half was too lazy to look this stuff up while at work.

I figured out you're correct. The parking brake and reverse light wires are different from the harness to the HU.

NOW, can anyone tell me what VSS is?

VSS is vehicle speed sensor. Not a 100% sure but I believe it's for the factory radio road noise setting. Not sure what it's called exactly but the setting that turns the volume up automatically the faster you go. It drowns out the highway noise. I left mine unhooked. There was no option for that on the aftermarket unit

Alright thank you. I appreciate the input.

Install is done and it went pretty smooth. I think it looks really good and will post a picture once daylight hits.

I need an antenna adapter but didn't know until I got in there. I believe this is the correct one - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FL8KFTM...=IZA4G5NSACHOR

I noticed when I hit mute it does not use the ATT function and I have it set for ATT. Is this because I did not hook up the MUTE wire?

None of the buttons on the remote really do anything. Volume and skip is about all I have. Menu, Audio, etc... none of those buttons do anything. Very odd.

That's about all I have for now. When I get in there to put the antenna adapter in i'll also be adding a backup camera and a video out for one of the rear head rests.

Does anyone know how to get rid of the "DVD" on the factory clock?

Looks like MAYBE just MAYBE you could have a dealer reflash the computer but that may or may not work according to this thread. One says his works fine, the other says after the flash he had to reset computer and the DVD came back.

You didn't need to use the Frd1 since you didn't have sync. You could have used the 5520 and ran switched power to the fuse box. Less wires, etc.
