Default Parking Break Wire/New Head Unit/Backup Camera

I'm installing my new Kenwood DNX6190HD today and was wondering how the parking break wire works. I want to be able to watch DVDs without having to be in park. I've read somewhere that I can attach the wire somewhere else and be able to do it? Please fill me in on this if you have any idea what I'm talking about.

Also, I am installing the backup camera as well. I'd like for it to be able to come on when I put the truck in reverse, but I'd also like to be able to see it whenever I want. Does anyone have any ideas how to achieve this?

Thanks!

I believe on that kenwood you need a relay to bypass the parking brake. Basically it needs to see a ground to the parking brake wire after the radio turns on.

The camera you could add a switch inline to make it think the truck is in reverse anytime you flip it.

I'm not all that educated on electrical wires, fuses, relays, etc...

When you say it "basically needs to see a ground to the parking brake wire after the radio turns on" --- do you mean, all I need to do is take the parking break wire and ground it somewhere, and that will work, or do I have to get some kind of special fuse, relay, bypass thing?

You need a standard 12v relay you can get at autozone or oreillys. You will hook the:

blue amp turn on wire from the radio to pin 86

Ground pin 85

Ground pin 30

Hook the parking brake wire from the radio to pin 87

Thats a huge help! Thanks a bunch. I'm getting ready to leave work at noon and go get this done. I have no idea what the numbered pins you are talking about are, but I'm sure I'll figure it out. I'll run by autozone and get the 12v relay you were talking about.

Yes they are labeled on the relay. All that is doing is when the amp turn on gives the relay power it sends the ground to the PB wire. This is required so it looks like you are putting the PB on after the radio was turned on.

I think I already figured it out. The pins you are referring to are the pins on the bottom of the relay, correct? How do I connect the bare wires to the relay? Is there a certain connector I need or just strip the wire and twist it on the corresponding pins?

Get female connectors at the parts store and crimp them to the wires then they slide on the pins.

Yes, the pins are labeled on the bottom.
