Alright finally getting a system together for my truck. This is what I have come across. I have a JBL Grand Touring amp GT0601.1ii 424 watts RMS x1 at 4ohms. The sub is a JL audio 10w1v2-8 power range 300 RMS peak power 600 watts. My question is will the amp be over kill for a single 10in sub? I know the amp has powered 2 12's and 2 10's before, I have never had it on a single 10 before.

Here's my take- and I am not professing to be some Guru.
You have an amp- means you don't have to buy another one. Money saved- win.
You can turn down the gain, so a 10 inch not blown. Plenty of power. - win.
Use the power wisely and you should be ok.
Am I wrong?
And I run 1-10. It's plenty for me, but I go for sound quality, not dB levels.
(Didn't research your amp. I'm sure it's decent quality, being a JBL. Had your JL before- great speaker.)

That speaker is a 8 ohm, you should use two of them to go down to 4 ohms.
That amp doesn't list what it does ( watts ) at 8 ohms. I would think it would be safe to run the amp at a higher ohm. The amp would put out less watts than 424@4ohms, so it should be safe for the speaker.
