Default Opinions and Advice on system

So I started ordering my new system last night. Here's what's going in the truck:

Infinity Kappa 682.9cf for the front doors http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...a+682.9cf.html

Box from SuperCrewSound with Image Dynamics sub http://www.supercrewsound.com/commer...jsp?prodId=268

Alpine PDX-5 http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...DX-5.html#tabs

MTX RE-Q http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...e-Q+-REQ-.html

I'll prolly get all the wiring from knukonceptz.com. Any particular kit/wires I should be looking for? Hopefully the install will go smooth. Should I go behind the back seat or under the front seat for the amp and LOC? Last question, where should I place the sub? Behind me, or my passenger? It will be more boomy if It's behind the passenger right? I want it as tight as possible. Thanks for any help! -Mac

Go to real components for your front doors, if you want coaxial mounting, you should be able to find a convertible set, but those Infinities are just coaxials.

I wanted components, but decided to give these a try. I picked them up cheap. If I don't like them I'll put them in the back for fill, and put comps in the front. If I do go comps in the front, where is the preferred placement of the tweets? I can get these pretty cheap on amazon
Amazon Amazon
Also, the amp I ordered was out of stock, and now I'm having second thoughts on the choice. Can anyone recommend an amp for running the fronts, and the sub? I called Crutchfield to get some advice and he recommended the Boston Acoustic GT-4100, but that's a little out of my budget, and freaking huge. It has nice power though. Thanks again for any help!

My bad, I miss read your post this morning and thought you hadn't bought yet (pre coffee post).

Kolossus 4 AWG 4 Channel, grab some extra speaker wire, too. The KLMA stuff is copper covered aluminum so I think the jump to Kolossus is worth it.

Behind the back seat

I don't think you'll see a huge difference between the left and right side with a small sealed downfire enclosure.

I've seen most put on the A pillar similiar to the stock location. Or you can do 5 1/4" comps and mount both the tweets and mids in the stock location.

I'd recommend staying Class D to keep size and power requirement down. I've got a Kenwood Excelon KAC-X4R which I picked for it's power (100W RMSx2 for my comps, and 300WRMS for my sub) and its tuning capabilities due to my use of the stock HU (the amp has a built in EQ with time delay). Got mine as a refurb for around $200.

What about this amp? http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...lon+XR-4S.html It looks like it would power my fronts and sub. How worried should I be going over the rated RMS watts on the fronts? The comps I may get http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...a+680.9cs.html are rated at 180w RMS per set, and 90w RMS each. The amp put out 150w RMS per channel at 2 ohms. The speakers are two ohms. Thanks!

In my opinion, you can do better than that, and for less. I'm sure that Kenwood is a good amp, but for $500.00, I'd look at other options.

Look at the new style Alpine PDX Amps. I just bought an Alpine PDXF4, and an M6 for $298.00 a piece. The F4 puts out 100 watts a channel x 4, and that is more than enough power for your application.

BTW, I have some hardly used Infinity Reference 6820cs 6x8 comps that I can sell you for a good price. I purchased them about a month ago, installed them about two weeks ago, and am powering them with the factory headunit. I have changed directions and am going with a totally active front stage using raw drivers, different HU, ect... So I will be pulling out the Infinity comps. They are brand new, and I purchased them thru Crutchfield.

In my opinion, the Kappa's tweeters are harsh. I've owned Kappa comps in the past in previous vehicles, as well as Reference, and in my opinion, the Reference series are smoother.

Rob.

I can get the Kenwood Amp off Amazon for $264, so that's a pretty good price. I just posted that link because it showed the specs better. My main question about the amp was...will pushing more RMS power to the speakers than they are rated for hurt them? What's a "good price" on those speakers? Looks like I can get them new on Amazon for $130. BTW...if it helps I pretty much listen to only heavy metal. -Mac

No. Don't get so caught up in the watt hype. 99 percent of the time, when speakers are damaged, it's not because they were fed too much power. Usually, it's because the user forced the amp into clipping, and sent distorted DC voltage to the speaker. It's always WAY better to be overpowered, than under powered. Don't sweat that small detail.
