Default ok, how about VIDEO? Need media device for LockPick input

I got my lockpick installed, works great.

Found out that my truck isn't DVD based, so no video in motion via DVD >:-(

Then I considered getting a lightning to HDMI cable and a HDMI to RCA converter, but then I found out Apple nerf'd the output in iOS9 and that no longer works

SO then I looked into a AppleTV, but it requires a WiFi connection, which I *could* do with a little hub in the truck, but I'd lose internet connection to my phone while it is connected.

I'm leaning towards getting a Western Digital TV media streamer with a 1TB hard drive, but it's expensive and it seems to be buggy depending on which version of firmware you run. Which I wouldn't be as concerned about except it seems the WD has dropped support of the device.

I'd love to find a 1/2 DIN DVD player, but they seem to be hard to come by these days and only in off-brand names from China.

SO - does anyone have a creative solution for a video source?

I'm not familiar with the Lockpick set up but does it have an HDMI input? If it does then you could use a Chromecast and just "cast" whatever you want to it.

No HDMI, just RCA. There are adapters/converters out there though and I think I'll have to get one. I'll look into the Chromecast, but I had assumed that it would need an internet connection like my Roku does and can't stream media from an external hard drive via USB...? That's why I was looking at the WD TV.

I have never had any luck with HDMI to RCA converters

If you use your phone as a hotspot you can use the chromecast just like it was in your home. Here's a link to a youtube video I made showing how it works in my Fusion....

As far as streaming from a hard drive, that's something I have never considered. The nice thing about using a chromecast is you can keep your library of movies at home and use something like "PLEX" to stream to your chromecast.

Your best option is a hard drive with RCA outs but where can you find one of those?
I guess you could use a home DVD player with and AC converter??

I think I'm going to try my Roku 2 XS since it has composite out. I'll have to use my wife's phone - I found out that she can create a hot spot. Then I can use Plex and the other app sharing to get the media there. I'm still trying to find out if a Roku can read data from the USB port, if so - that would work.

My Roku ended up having a bad USB port, so I bought this to try

Micca Speck G2 1080p Full-HD Ultra Portable Digital Media Player For USB Drives and SD/SDHC Cards https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008NO9RRM..._C5UkwbFECSF4D

So far, I love it.
