If running off stock, look for a speaker with high sensitivity ratings. Infinity is great with this and are even designed to make use of the stock wiring with ohm load.
I have the infinity Kappas and they run off a Kenwood with 22 watts RMS but when I had them on the stock HU they were a huge improvement over stock. Now they sound even better and are plenty loud and clear without distortion.

I was in Best Buy last nigh playing with their car audio stuff. To me, adding a sub made more of a difference than amping the door speakers. Now I'm conflicted. the original plan was a new head unit, Infinity Kappa's, an Alpine KTP 445 for the doors, and a sound Ordnance B-8PTD under the seat. I may leave out the Alpine.

The OEM HU has crappy EQ and has a cutoff the more the volume goes. Then as money comes install speakers.
I had the SO B-8PTD and it was ok but wanted more bass so I went with a bazooka tube 8" powered and it blows it away. Obviously it can only be mounted under the seat vs behind the seat like I had done with the SO but I'm more happy with bass from Bazooka tube.
