Need some basic advice on amps

Here's an update.

All 4 speakers are fine. One of the fronts was cutting out due to a bad connection. I played with the gain on the amp and now have it set back to safe levels, so I don't have to worry about melting them. I think I'll just leave it for now. I can always go back and upgrade later, if I get a hot pepper up my @$$. ;D

Thanks for the help! I've never been much into car audio, but I guess I'm so used to a decent sound in my explorer that the truck just sounded terrible!

Be prepared. That "pepper" will most likely happen. Boys and their toys you know? Second truck I started I am leaving it stock. No....speaker upgrade only. No.....need an amp and sub too. That is it. No.....need to replace HU. Must admit, each upgrade made it sound better.
