Default Need New amp, have some questions

Right now im running a 10" dual 2 ohm alpine type R with a pioneer gm-5000t amp... my sub is underpowered by this amp, (the type r can handle 500w rms). Im still trying to figure out how the whole ohm thing works, but if im not mistakin my sub is wired at 4 ohms. Can this sub be wired at 1 ohm? i need some good suggestions for an amp from you guys, im lookin for something that will put out 500 watts rms at the ohm load that i need, which im not really sure what it is.
Thanks

Yes your sub can be wired down to 1 ohm. You will just need to find a 1 ohm stable amp.

you should have plenty of power with that amp...i am running and 400 watt rms at 2 ohm amp to two 12" 4ohm xplods that are wired in series to 8 ohms and they hit loud enough...almost unbearable

If you think that 1 xplodes are loud i wish you could have heard to 2 Kicker solo x 18s i used to have in my truck. You had to wear ear protection just to sit in the truck.

Here is a link to determine configuration of your subs and the various options.

I did want to point out that you will need to wire both and they can get down to a 1/2 ohm load. One by itself can get down to a 1 ohm load. I have one type s in my truck and I am getting ready to move up to an IDQ to help with sound quality and responsiveness. I just received a set of mp3s to test my sub and my type s is missing some notes at the lower levels.

I would consider this if you are budget concise: http://www.woofersetc.com/p7635/BAMF...-Amplifier.htm. It will put out more power than you need so it should be clean for those subs at lower level. It also comes with a gain control ****.
Good Luck.
