Most would say to replace the tweeters. I havent torn my pillars apart yet but the way i understand it the grill on the pillars is part of the stock tweeter, not seperate. You could always leave the stock tweeters in the pillars and disconnect them, then put your new tweeters down in the doors, but i prefer my tweeters up high

Same here. I'm trying to understand what size would fit like OEM. Also I've read there is a built in crossover in the stereo. But I don't know if that's all of them or just the Sony one or what.

The grill is separate from the tweeter.

I've been doing so much research my head is spinning. We had a big storm yesterday and lost power all night so got break from research but I'm still kind of confused. What exactly is the job of the pac unit? How would I go about replacing the tweeters with a component setup for the front? Does the PAC allow to run sound to an amp then returns the power to amp up the speakers? I'm trying to wrap my head around all this but it has been years since I did this kind of thing and even then I had a shop do it and just go over it with me..so never had to do it on my own..

The PAC unit takes the speaker outputs from your stereo and converts them to RCAs to hook up an amp. It also provides you with a remote turn-on lead. You can then splice your speaker leads from your amp back into the outputs of the PAC unit to provide signals to your speakers. The big advantage to using the PAC unit is that you don't have to cut or splice any factory wiring

As far as replacing the tweeters, are you asking how to physically replace them, or are you asking about wiring?

Thanks on that. I'm asking about wiring. Taking the pillars off is pretty straightforward but I'm not sure about if the stereo separates the sound or not. I want to get a good set for upfront but I'm not sure how to wire them. I would like to find a set I could run without an amp. I understand an amp will sound better but from what I read a lot of ppl are happy just putting in decent speakers with a higher sensitivity rating.

The tweeters are wired in parallel off of the L and R door speakers. They have a blocking cap wired in to keep lows off of them.

If you are going to replace speakers, at a minimum I would wire in a small amp as in this thread:

So if I understand this correctly, I should be able to get a decent set of component speakers and then use the speakers crossover and run up to the factory tweeter location?

Sweet thank you for all your help. Also thanks to mgp777 for your help as well. Will order my stuff probably next week or so. One last question though. Thinking of adding a Kicker Hideaway, that just taps into the rear speaker set up as a low pass right??
