Default Need help installing my aftermarket radio

Ok I recently installed a alpine head unit in my 2010 f150 and only way I could get radio to turn on is wiring my yellow and red wires toghter, and I have to manually turn radio on and off this way. Now I'm having problems with my battery always dying is this because the way I have my radio installed?

I would have to say yes if the battery is relatively new. The only head unit ive installed was in a 95 Explorer and i dont recall puting two wires together. Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in. Just be patient young grasshopper.

I would suggest calling METRA, SCOSCHE or PAC AUDIO tech support.. Which ever brand harness you are installing that is who you should call. I have been doing a ton of research before i pull the trigger on my aftermarket head unit install and i have seen a bunch of fluke issues, component failures and troubleshooting problems. The guys in tech support are really knowledgeable on their product and will hopefully be able to trace down the problem with ALOT of patience.. because they always start out dumb until you make them help you. LOL

Did you buy a factory wiring harness?
Did you wire it to retain steering wheel controls(if you have controls)?
Where did you order the HU from?
Part and model numbers for the components used would help out with the troubleshooting.

^x2.....You have a dead battery because the radio is staying on after the truck is turned off....red (12v switched) and yellow (12v constant) don't go together.

More information would be helpful

try running the red power wire to a fuse in the passenger floor board area. FInd one that sends power when the truck is on. This is how I did it in my 2011 and it worked like normal
