I kept the factory head unit in so I didn't have to mess with the sync and for theft prevention. The problem with my setup is that I ran all the speaker wires to line in for the mono amp, then I ran rcas from the mono amp to the 2 channel amp. It appears as tho only the front speakers get full freq range because the sound is very different if I fade all the way to the back or all the way to the front. Also I believe the oem HU rolls off the bass as you increase volume. It just took a little extra tuning but it sounds really good once i got it dialed in.

I will look up the exact model for the 10" sub/box when I get home from work. Honestly if you had 2 of them in there with 500watts rms I think you will have plenty of power and good quality sound. As I said 1 of them is enough for me, but I also have more power going to my mid bass woofers so there may be a trade off. Separate sub/box and amps are going to be much better than a powered sub.

If you are installing an aftermarket HU then it should have at least one set of rca outputs to run to an amp. And I did exactly what you suggest to get by the molex plugs in the doors. I ran the speaker wire back to the head unit and then spliced into the oem speaker wires. Although it probably means I have a little smaller speaker wire than I should, you shouldn't have any problems at 75watts.
Excellent! Thanks for the input. That helps a lot. Did you do any sound deadening? I am contemplating dropping that to save some cost. My truck is actually pretty freaking quiet inside. I just noticed this last night.

So if I reuse the OEM wiring in the doors I won't have to mess with that?

That is certainly doable as far as price goes. Maybe a couple hundred more for an amp but its within budget. I looks awfully thick though. I don't mind losing underseat space but how well does it fit? Do you have installed pics?

Ok, I measured. There is no room back there. lol

I am thinking of going a different direction. I am thinking of the Kicker Substage upgrade (or the hideaway) and new door speakers w/amp. As much as I hate the stock HU I need to cut costs. I also don't want to attract a lot of attention with the new HU. Do you guys think an amp, 4 door speakers (The fosgate stuff I listed earlier) would be ok?

It fits just about perfectly under my extended cab's back right seat. (The one that folds up by itself). I chose to put it in the middle but you could put it on either side as well. I'll take some pics and post for you in the morning when I get off work.

My recommendation for cost cutting would be to do it like I did. I think it gives you the best sound quality for the price. You can always upgrade the HU or other features later. The most work is the door speakers. So I would go as high quality as you can there first. Then you can easily upgrade other components later.

If you use the oem wiring then you don't have to worry about the molex plugs in the doors. I did not do any sound deadening. I occasionally get a rattle here or there in the doors when certain pitches resonate, but it is usually not that bad. It will probably get worse with time tho too.

Here are those pictures.

As you can see it is almost perfectly flush with the back seat.

Here is the molex plug I was talking about in the door.

You can most certainly stick with the stock HU. I have been running mine since 2011 in my 2010 Screw. You will need to an a Line Out Converter so you can turn your high level inputs(speaker wire) to low level inputs(RCAs). There are definitely cheap LOCs out there but I would suggest going with a AudioControl LC6i, the beauty of the LC6i is it will help you tune your system and avoid the low frequency roll off that comes at higher volumes with a stock HU and stock speakers. It will also add in a 3rd channel for sub, if and when you decide you want to put one in.

My setup has been:
Stock HU, added speaker wires that ran to the back of my cab to my LC6i. 3 sets of RCAs two to my 4 channel amp for the doors and one set to my mono amp for my 2 x 12" subs. From the 4 channel amp I ran speaker wires back up front and tied back into the factory speaker wires there. I am not pushing that much juice so I figured the smaller wire wasn't a big deal.
