I have added the ipod to a hidden area too. One is for songs and the other (wife's) is for movies. Wife asks me "have you seen my ipod? ahhhhh,..... NOPE!!!!
I don't smoke so the cable sits behind where the cigarette lighter and AUX 12 volt socket are. The ipod automatically charges so I can use it at work. The ipod shuts itself off after 2 minutes so it is always charged and ready to go.
I recovered a piece of 1/4 MDF with tan vinyl close to the color of the door panel inserts so it looks factory and used left over ipod adapters from my sons I-touch radio. Works perfect!!!!!!
