My SI BM MKIV box

My SI BM MKIV box
Hey guys,
I figured I'd post a couple pics of what I'm doing with my truck.
I'm putting a new stereo system (and a long list of other things lol) in my truck. It's a 2012 SuperCrew. Going with a sub as well, and I had a couple things that I wouldn't compromise on.....
1. I have the WeatherTech floor liners and they have a stepped up lip right under the rear passenger seat. I did not want to cut the lip out to make room for the sub's excursion movement.
2. Sub box has to fit completely under the rear passenger seat section and not protrude out sideways past it.
Because of the box size restrictions, my choice was limited to the MKIV, which is fine because I've heard nothing but good things about it and probably would have chosen it anyways lol. It's requirement of 0.5 cuft is perfect for me.
But to avoid contact with the WeatherTech lip, I mounted the speaker inside the box....which caused the box air space calculations and top clearances to shrink.....so I had to make the box "bigger" inside without being bigger outside.
The solution was to make some of it out of metal. The front and rear walls are 1/8" sheetmetal. The top is aluminum because it is going to be close to the magnet so I couldn't go with a magnetic material. The top will be removable (isn't finished yet) and will be screwed down to weatherstripping. The front and rear metal portions are glued and screwed with the screw heads countersunk as much as possible.
All in all, it turned out well so far. Just going to carpet it and put some 3/4" tall feet under it. Overall width is 16.25 inches and it doesn't stick out on the sides of the seat. Gotta get some fiber fill put in as well.

Have you hooked it up and played it yet? I'm curious how that sheet metal is going to hold up against vibrations and resonance.

I was worried about that when I started designing it, but after assembly, I don't have any concerns. She's pretty stout. But......I won't know for sure until I fire it up.

Yup, the plan is to carpet the sides and front. Just haven't had a chance yet. Been off work since Monday putting in the radio, amps, heated seats, and camera wiring. Holy cow this is taking a long time lol. After I make sure all is well with it, I'll get it carpeted.
