mounting amp on sub box
hey guys ive got a 05 f150 reg cab, and it has 4 doors and i installed a 12 in sub and amp, the box isnt huge but its bigger than just a regular truck box, but anyways my amp is just on the floor next to it and i was wondering if i could mount it on the back of my sub box, i miss my storage room lol, will this screw anything up if i sink like 4 screws into the back of the box to hold the amp on it, it would just make my system more compact

I was under the impression that amps werent supposed to be on the box because the vibrations from the bass adversely affects the functioning of the amp, I was told that they were supposed to be away from the box if possible. Maybe I was misinformed.

If the sub box is built right with internal bracing so it doesn't flex it is the most solid thing in the truck to mount your amp on. It may sound crazy but its true. Turn your stereo up and put a coin on the floor, the box, and anywheres else. If the enclosure is built solid the coin won't move. I can make a quarter bounce 2 inches off my floor. The floor is thin sheet metal and it vibrates a lot and its no different than the back wall or any other part of your truck.
Boxes that are thin and not reinforced will flex in the middle. The wider the box, the worse it will flex. Poor quality enclosures are what you should not mount a amp on. A properly built box is the most solid thing you can mount your amp on.

i had an 05 regular cab before i got my 04 scab, stepped down to step up - anyways - i had an amp and all that in my regular cab - i mounted it vertically along the rear wall of the truck personally, i had no problem while it was mounted up there - would do it again if space was an issue - also second opton could be to mount amp under drivers seat if theres enough room under there (scab and screw models have a air vent for rear seats) i think if air vent is not present and depending on size of amp (length, width, height) you could very well fit, mount, and hide it under seat and just run your wiring to the sub box.
