First of all - this is a great thread. Thanks to 12V guy and everyone that has contributed. Because of this thread, I have summoned the courage to install a Maestro idatalink and new HU in our 2013 SCrew.

My question: is there an adapter that would allow my factory mic to be used with an aftermarket HU? This is exactly what is done with the satellite antenna, so it'd be nice to use the existing mic. If I do have to install a new mic (don't plan on using Sync), where is a good place to install it?

Thanks again.

I have the Maestro unit with a Kenwood head and it uses the Ford factory mic. It was all integrated with the wiring included.

Thanks for the quick reply. Did you keep Sync or are you using your factory mic completely for the HU's functions?

if you keep Sync, that allows you to retain the factory mic. If you use your aftermarket HUs Bluetooth, and disable sync. Youll need to install your HUs aftermarket mic.

As the oem mic, wont work for the aftermarkets HUs Bluetooth for phone.

If you dont have Sync, or do have Sync, and dont keep the feature. A good place to install the Aftermarket mic, is either on the steering wheel shroud center of the gauge cluster. Or get creative, and drill a small hole in the overhead console, just big enough to tightly secure the new mic.

Yes I did retain sync. I like it on the whole and will keep it functional, but there is no doubt that its glitchy at times.

I disabled sync and use the Mic that came with the radio. I use android auto on my head unit which is better (i think) than sync.

Default HU speaker wires

Does the MRR require the Speaker output hooked up, or are they just passed to the vehicle harness? I ask because I have my own speaker cable harness in use.
