...is there one of those speaker walls there at your work? if so then see if those speakers are on display, most likely they will be amplified.. then you could ask the installers to unhook it from the amp then see how it sounds in comparison.. if you dont have the display wall there with those speakers then idk, you could again ask the installers to hook them up with and without an amp but they might make you buy the speakers before they do it.

Well, they'll still be an amazing improvement over my existing factory set, with a new head unit?
Again, I'm not going for the boom boom, just a good improvement over what I have now.

i wouldnt spend 200 bucks on the polks... thats just my opinion but i just ordered two sets of infinity 6x8 kappas with an amp to power them correctly for $260... my girlfriend has infinity reference speakers in her truck (reference arent as good as kappas) and her truck sounds great but mine will sound better! one set of 6x8 kappas are $79.00 and i found a power acoustik amp thats a 100w rms x 4 for $119.00, i cant wait for them to get here so i can put them in.. as for head units im not too sure, i havnt bought many of those, i just ordered a power acoustik head unit though, im sure ill be happy with it, ill tell you how i like it when it gets here

I am not much of an audiophile but I too was making long freeway drives in my '02 SuperCab... the stock speakers started buzzing badly so I replaced them with 4 Infinity Reference 5x7/6x8's... Wow! what a difference! I was shocked at how much clarity I gained & I could hear instruments/ notes I never knew existed...
Plus I could run with all windows down & my CCR disks cranked up high & still understyand the lyrics...one of my best mods...well actually my only mod! LOl...
I don't really care to go with an amp nor do I need the Kappas at this point but in my next truck....? ( I am inventing a deathray for high power amps & booming base stereos!) I hate those thumpers next to me!

ngm is right, about those speakers needing to be pushed. I have noticed alot of times i will take factory speakers out with factory radio's or head units, and the aftermarkets dont seem as loud, better quality, but slightly less noise. I guess you already ordered the speakers, but i would have said to go with a deck first.

I went into my local Pep Boys one day to buy oil and a filter. I walked past the stereo isle, and noticed a set of Pioneer speakers in a packaged box, specifically for Ford vehicles (5x7? or is it 4x8's). The box stated that they fit Ford F150's for my year truck. Paid around 50 bucks for them. They have a center tweeter built into them. I installed them in the front doors, and they improved the sound quality for the stock head unit enough so that I went and bought a second set for the rear half doors of my standard cab STX.
