I agree with you...Nothing wrong with Sony's old stuff...some of their head units and amps are very highly regarded for SQ and SPL...but some of the stuff was crap and shouldn't have even been sold at flea markets.

I think it's hit or miss. Everyone has their own opinions on what's best. I've personally owned rockford fosgate p3's, kicker l7, kicker cvr, jl audio 10w3, 12w7, soundstream reference r1's, pioneer premiers, and many more. All sound great compared to a stock system IMO. Jl audio IMO is always a great choice, great sound quality and keep in mind you get what you pay for. I would describe kicker as a lower quality sound but loud. After everything I've had I love JL overall based on quality an loud but kicker for just an extreme noise maker. I have components and tweeters for quality and they are kicker and a kicker l7 to do it's job, just thump. I don't think you can go wrong with anything though, if your not used to having it you'll be impressed. I'm extremely happy with my setup. It's loud, clear and fairly inexpensive. I think you'd be happy with a mono subwoofer setup. Just go with one 10" subwoofer and you'll be more then happy. Look into everything and find you a good deal but I'm positive you would be happy with Rockford Fosgate, Kicker, and JL audio. Those are pretty much the only companies I think about when it comes to a "street" sound system.

Here's pictures of what I'm working with. 4 6x8 kickers in all four doors (mids) 4 40mm kicker tweeters in all four doors (highs) 1 Kicker solobaric L7 (lows) all hooked to a kicker 700.5 5 channel amp. I absolutely love my amp. 2 amps built into one with one side 4 channels and the other side mono for your sub. All of that is ran into a Sony double din DVD touchscreen. All of this I installed myself and I have about 1600$ to 1700$ in everything you see pictured minus my sketch which is a custom box I'm designing for my L7 to go under the seat and upfire at the roof of the truck to echo the bass. I would consider this setup upper entry level and I'm very satisfied with it. Future plans may include two 8" solobaric L7's fiberglassed in the rear doors.

How's it sound with the tweets in the doors like that? I was thinking about doing the same thing.

How do you like that Sony Screen? Is that the one with Nav? Was thinking about getting the same one.

Sounds awesome, I'm finding new words in songs I've never understood before. For instance Birdman "Money to Blow" I heard "Top slipped off like Janet at the super bowl" lol and dyed laughing for about 5 minutes straight I love them.

I opted for the one without nav. I'm in the military and always somewhere else and don't feel like updating the maps so I just have a portable nav. The sony one I got has bluethooth and stuff so I'm very happy with it. The touchscreen isn't as responsive as I'd like but I think there's a setting for that, I just can't find it.

Seems that everyone is talking speaker but what is most important is matching the box with the style of sub and sound you are looking for. You can have the best sub and a chitty box and will have a chitty system...seems most talk subs but nothin about boxes or even how they are built. JMO
