Kenwood shallow sub install
Okay, so it took three weeks to fry the Kicker sub, so, in the trash that trash went.
Picked up a custom made box for my 2012 SCrew off of EBay. .8 cubic ft. Black matching carpet.
Picked up a Kenwood Excelon 12" 1400 watt shallow woofer. It's being powered by a 1000 watt Kenwood mono amp, coming out of my Kenwood DDX470 headunit. Used a Scoche 4 gauge install kit (this one has true 4 gauge wires).
The subwoofer is graphite / fiberglass with a Kevlar coating. Really heavy for a shallow sub. Serious magnets on this bad boy!
Wow! Wish I would have just bought the Kenwood wider to start. This thing hits all the lows, hits tight too. Have my headunit bass levels all flat, gain set around 60%. I thought the Kicker sounded good initially, but this thing is on a whole different level!
It shakes the entire truck at 28 of 35 volume. At 32 you can feel the air moving in and out of your ear canal. I won't go above that until the speaker is broken in. Really, I likely won't turn it up past 30 very often.
Anyway, with all Kenwood components throughout the truck, including the doors, it sounds fantastic!
If you are wondering what system components to go with, you cannot go wrong with Kenwood! And the whole system looks stock.
Here's the new box. Completely subdued in appearance. Can remove in two minutes if I need the entire load floor.

It was the comp 10" kicker I had that literally filled my truck with smoke and the smell of burnt hair.
Fried the voice coil.
Didn't last three weeks.
And now that I have the Kenwood, I realize that there was really nothing below 60 hz being reproduced by the Kicker. With the Kenwood, it's all there.

In deciding between the ten and the twelve, I checked the low end decibel drop off. Both are good, but the twice gets real low.
I can listen to my old school Fushnicans and hear all the notes. Love it!
I bet dual tens must hit like a ton of bricks!
