Smile Kenwood DNX Questions. Now Mostly Solved

I have a 2012 F150, standard stereo, Sirius, and Sync. Tomorrow I get my new stuff from Crutchfield: Kenwood DNX570HD, Sirius SV200 tuner, Maestro I-datalink, and all the odds and ends needed for the install.

I have a few questions:

1. Will my OEM sat antenna fit/work on the SV200? Do make it work do I have to remove the yellow plastic from the connector?

2. Will my OEM display still show the radio stations, Sirius information, etc?

3. Can I use my OEM microphone or do I have to use the one from Kenwood?

I know that I need to program the Maestro over the internet, I was just wondering how much functionality remains on the OEM display.

Thanks for the advice!

Hans

Did the same thing you are but with the Kenwood DNX890. to answer your questions:

1. The Sat Antenna will work, remove the yellow clip. The sat connector will be a little loose so use some RTV to hold it in place.

2. Yes the OEM display will show radio station and what you are listening too.

3. Yes the Maestro will keep all Sync functions including the use of the factory bluetooth mike.

There are some minor quirks with the system but I'm happy with the change. Adding GPS is a real plus and it sounds so much better. Some advise, change out your speakers to hear the full sound your new radio will produce.

Thanks for the reply.

I figured that the speakers are probably the weak link and not up to the power output from the Kenwood. Eventually I will get to them; I have some other add on in mind first.

Forgot to ask: what are the minor quirks you are referring to?

I have had to change how I access the phone. A little different than before. Also volume issues.

One thing that bugs me a little is when I ask sync to call some one it takes a little longer to make the call and then when sync says calling blah, blah it cuts off part of the person name.

Do a search for all the kenwood/I datalink threads. 12v guy been a great and will help you if you have issues.

I have no regrets doing this, good money.

I am in the middle of my install....one wire left to connect for the Maestro T-Harness.

The Maestro instructions on pg. 34 tell me to connect the "SWI 2(-) Input - Pink/Red" to the steering wheel side of the Sync module. On page 13 it gives the location (passenger side) on the wire color (Blue/Orange.

For one thing, I found the Sync module (I believe it is because the USB port comes from there and there is a provision for a 2nd USB on the box) below the center dash tray. There is no Blue/Orange wire anywhere at the connector (it is a cam-type release connector).

This is for 2012 no factory NAV, with Sync truck! If any of you encountered this problem and have a fix please let me know so I put my truck back together. I called Crutchfield and they were guessing that the wires doesn't have to be connected (contrary to the instruction).

Sorry for the long post and thanks for any advice!

I went ahead and hooked the radio up, followed the instruction for the initial Maestro setup and everything (Sync wise) appears to be working!

The only issue I have is that the headlights come on now all the time when I place the switch on AUTO. That happens in bright sunlight and I have no clue why! I did connect the Kenwood "Illumination Wire" to the Maestro T-harness orange Parking Light wire.

Any ideas or is that one of the quirks?

Thanks again!

Nope, not one of the quirks. Have no clue on that one.

With the sensor right above where you were working did you disconnect something?

The wire that needs to be connected I found at the harness to the sync module unwrap the harness cut the wire and connect to the driver side and cap and stow the sync side of the wire.

Default Got it working!

Finally got everything working. The light issue was my fault because I checked all the radio and navigation functions without the bezel being in place (meaning none of the connectors were hooked up for the HVAC and other stuff on the bezel).

When the airbag light wouldn't go off that got me thinking because there is a Passenger A/B light on the bezel. Same goes for the outside temperature, it will not show when the bezel is not connected.

The only thing I haven't figured out is the SWI 2 Input wire, there is no blue/orange wire on my Sync module. Most not be important because as far as I can tell everything works. I will call Maestro tomorrow and ask!

There are a few quirks I don't like:

1. Sometimes the Kenwood or Sync looks for an Ipod......I don't have one!

2. The Map view always reverts back to default zoom setting....I wish it would keep the zoom setting I had prior to powering down.

Overall I am happy with the outcome; here are some pictures (night mode, it was getting dark).
