Default Just want better sound

I just bought an 03 supercrew with the 6 disc factory n dash changer.. Sound quality is lacking. i dont want to remove factory "head" I just want some better sound.. can i get it with better speaker only? I have been out of the stero system loop since I graduated college in 1992 and sold my ride from highschool .. Been driving newer cars with premium factory sound systems and been happy withthem.. But this 03 is just below my standard of quality sound..

would be nice to have a jack for my mp3 player too..

any and all sugestions will be appreciated..

I too am very disappointed with the sound quality of these trucks. I recently purchased a new HU and this has helped a lot, but I still think the sound system is still lacking. I will be purchasing better speakers and an amp in the future. If you just need louder a new HU will do. But, if you want some bass you will need an amp and new speakers. I think about $600 should take care of the problem.

You can replace your door speakers but if you dont amp them then you will still be disappointed. Do you have a budget in mind and do you want to add any bass?

Groundthumper18,

You seem to know a lot about speakers. I was looking for amps on E-bay and found entry level amps from Kenwood, JBL, Infinity, etc... for around $150. If I bought one of these with about 50-60 watts RMS and 110-125 watts MAX would I be able to get some bass? It does not have to be huge just some clean bass. I am getting some from the factory speakers with the new HU. It is just very dirty.

Could you look these amps and speakers over and give me your opinion? Thank you very much

amps= JBL GT5-A604, Kenwood KAC-8404, Sony XM-ZR604

speakers= Kicker KS680, Alpine SPS-507, JL C2-570X

DNLOW,

Of the speakers you listed I would go with the JL C2 570X. These will give you a nice clean sound. I personally dont like the kicker DS series. With Kicker I think you would have to go with their top of the line QS Components but those will run you about $285 per set. I personally am running 3 sets of the QS components in my truck and am very pleased with the sounds and sound quality.

The JL C2 speakers want 60 watts rms. I like to match my speakers with an amp made by the same company so i would check out this JL amp price wise it is comparable to the ones you listed but quality is second to none.
JL Audio J2 320.4 (J2320.4)
320W RMS, J2 Series Full-Range 4-Channel Amplifier

Now along the lines of how much bass you want you can only get so much out of your door speakers as they are designed for mids and highs. I would recommend doing a separate subwoofer and amp for this. If you can give me a budget you are looking at I would be happy to recommend a full set up and tell you the best place to get each item.

Grounthumper18,

Thanks for the advice. I will go with the speakers and amp that you recommended.

My budget is pretty much used up for now. If I still need more bass I will get back to you. I am just trying to get close to the sound system that I had in my 2005 Mercedes Benz C230. It was nothing great, but compared to Ford system it was awesome. It was about a 300 watt factory system with no sub woofer. It had a fair amount of bass. I think with the set up you recommended it will sound at least the same, and probably better, as the factory Mercedes Benz system.

Again thanks for the help.

Any good aftermarket sound system will almost always put your stock audio to shame except maybe in a real high end car but you still see alot of those getting swapped out for something better.
