JL 2-ways in 2011 Screw??
I have a 2011 supercrew with the Sony nav system, and I'm having some trouble with my driver's side front door speaker. It started off not really having any output, then it started making a ton of racket like it was blown. Now it seems to be playing fine, but I'm not too confident in the factory speakers anymore.
Before it started working again, I spoke with a local car audio shop, and they recommended the JL TR570-CXi 5x7's for the doors (specs). They priced me $100 a pair, which seems to be a decent price compared to what I've seen. I know the speakers will really wake up with a amp to power them, but I just can't spring for an amp right now.
My questions are:
--Does anyone have experience with these subs?
--Do you think they will be better than the factory speakers/sound good even without an amp and only running off the stock head unit?
--And do you think I would be ok with just doing the front doors for now?
Any of your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

The shop I went into recommended the Alpine Type S or the Kicker KS680 over the JL TR series to me. All were priced about the same. He seemed to think the TR wasn't as good, you just paid a premium for the JL Audio name.
I ended up just ordering a pair of Infinity Kappa 6x8's for the front doors and calling it a day. They were $87 shipped from Sonic Electronix.

Overall I think you will be pleased with the improvement over the factory speakers.
We can sit around and agonize forever about this speaker or that speaker but in the end buy a quality speaker and buy the best you can at the time.
