To charge the phone perhaps?

I don't believe you'll get notifications if you're plugged in...I've never tried though. To my knowledge you'll have to be connected via Bluetooth for notifications.

Emails huh. I don't think that's an option. Never has notified for emails on mine. iPhone 5 here.
But then again, I'm driving, why the hell do I want to know if I'm being emailed?

Well, maybe. I've been hearing lots of complaints since KitKat came out.

No complaints at all with KK on my or my wife's Moto Droid Ultra's. I have heard however it's best to do a complete wipe of the phone and then update for a clean install which is what I did as the phones came with jellybean.

I did that on mine. Complete wipe and then update. Still end up having to do at least 3 hard resets a day due to freezing and charge from dead at around 2pm. On my third warranty replacement battery as well.

The notifications show up on the phone, it just isn't an audible notification. If you feel the need to check emails or texts while you're driving, please pull over and stop first. It's not worth it. You're in a 5000 lb+ missile flying down the road. It takes no time for something to come up and for you to kill someone. No email or text is worth ruining your life over, or worse yet, ending someone else's.

You are a piece of work. This discussion is about getting an iPhone to work with SYNC not a lecture about driving habits. If you want to preach do it on Sunday.
Also when a phone is used for business knowing when you get emails is critical. All I am asking is why my phone doesn't ding when I get an email?
