Default Installing stereo and disconnecting battery causes malfunctioning PMC

I'm trying to install a new expensive stereo in my 04 f150 new body style and I don't want to damage my new stereo or myself so I disconnected the battery and realized I needed another harness so I didn't get it installed but by disconnecting the battery, my truck would randomly shut off on me so I had test run on it and they said my PMC needs reprogrammed. I've been told its because I disconnected the battery that this happened. Well I have the harness I needed and ready to install but I don't want to screw my computer system up again. They make a memory saver but it keeps voltage alive so I don't know if that would damage my stereo or hurt me so I haven't bought one. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Leave the battery connected and install the radio. It's not going to hurt anything. I've done hundreds and I've never unhooked the battery.
