If you don't have a factory sub, your FORD harness and Factory HU won't have a remote wire.

Generally, all aftermarket radio have Remote turn on leads. The remote turn on lead will come from the Harness that came with the Radio itself. That is the wire you run to your amp to tell it to turn on.

Even if your OEM harness or radio didn't have one, the aftermarket radio harness one will work. The signal is just sent from the new HU through the remote wire to the external amp.

aaand problem solved. i had the other wires hooked up properly, just got thrown by the wire labeled amp ground... it doesnt make any sense to have a wire labeled that since, like you said, the amps have their own ground but I should have thought of that initially. Thanks idb

No problem, glad I could help.

My only thinking for naming the "amp ground" wire would be;
Most aftermarket HU's have small internal amps to power the door speakers, thus naming the HU ground an "amp ground"

A good example of this would be my Alpine CDA 7894. It has a fairly large internal amp; 27rms x4. It requires a separate 10ga power wire to be ran straight from the battery(not from the factory harness) to power it. It also takes an inline 25amp fuse, so that would be my logic for naming it "amp ground"

I had my amp wire hooked to the harness that plugs into my truck and that wire went to nothing I went over everything else for about a week tightening and reconnecting things before I figured that out and as soon as I changed it to the one coming out of the cd player it started to work
