Silly question, but did you try to fit the 6x9s in the door with just the spacer without trimming the sheetmetal to see if it cleared? I've found that a little bit of spacing away from the sheetmetal is all that it takes to fit an oversized speaker without requiring any cutting.

Sometimes that's the case with speaker mounting but in the case of the Polk Audio MM691's, the basket doesn't quickly taper down. It's an almost straight down type taper. Stong basket assembly but just the opposite shape of what I need in order to get the 6x9 mounted up in those backs doors. Trust me, if I could somehow do it, I would do it in a heart beat! I am truly an experience modder when it comes to working with stuff like this

Fair enough. I was just curious. All too often the obvious is overlooked leading to a face-palm moment upon retrospect.

I almost talked myself into "redesigning" the door panel but in the end, I would be needlessly investing money into something that is basically being used as a midbass point. So, rather than trying to reinvent the wheel on the back doors, I am going to buy a different type wheel.. lol! Maybe a shallow mount 8"? I will have PLENTY of power on the back speakers so that's not going to be an issue..

Don't blame ya.. I can barely (and I do mean BARELY) hear my little 5x7's in the rear doors. Seems like a waste when I am really craving more MIDBASS. If I can figure out a solution for 8" midbass drivers in my rear doors, I am totally going to yank out my 5x7's.
