So I just installed the DNX890HD along with a maestro and I'm having a bit of an issue. I tried plugging in my iPhone 5 into the unit to stream pandora and I'm not getting any audio. The artwork shows up on the screen and I can control the actual program, but there is no audio. I tried just playing music and the same thing happens, artwork shows up on the screen but no audio through the speakers. Any suggestions?

I don't believe it can be played that way. In order to play music from your iPhone to the head unit I think you have to have a special Kenwood cable. But since the iPhone 5 is all digital and has a different connector it won't work with that cable. Have you tried playing it through the Sync USB yet?

I just got off the phone with Kenwood. It's completely ridiculous that I will now need to go out and buy not only the cable, but the adapter from apple for my phone. There is $70 down the drain. Oh and if I want to just leave my iPod hooked up to the other usb port, that's another $30 as well. The funny thing is on the cheaper non-navi models, you don't need the adapter for everything to work according to the Kenwood rep. I asked him to explain to me how that made any sense at all and he agreed that it didn't. I really wish I would have just stuck with Alpine like I always have and got the new 8" screen model.

If others are seeing this then I'll stop worrying about it...but if it's possible I have a faulty satellite tuner or even head unit I need to get a hold of Crutchfield to get it exchanged. Shameless bump.

Well I got a new satellite tuner shipped to me from Crutchfield, and got it installed tonight. Still flashing the "check tuner" message during boot-up for about half a second right before it starts playing music and displays the song info.

So I can assume it's not the satellite tuner's fault that is causing this message to pop up. So it's either just a part of the normal boot-up process of these navigation head units, or my head unit is faulty. If it's a faulty head unit then I need to get it replaced before my return window with Crutchfield closes.

It would be greatly appreciated if others out there with one of these new 2013 Kenwood navigation head units and the SXV200 SiriusXM satellite tuners could do a few power cycles (while leaving the source on SiriusXM the whole time) to see if they're getting a "check tuner" message right before the music starts playing on either their Sync display or on the head unit itself. And then post here to let me know whether they're getting that message pop up or not.

Thanks in advance.

I think that it might take 1/2 second for the HU to recognize the sat tuner

I actually got a response from someone here that I PM'd about this last night. His Sync display flashes the "check tuner" message on boot up as well from time to time. I also called Kenwood last night again about this to let them know that I had the satellite tuner replaced but was still getting the same message pop up during boot up. They couldn't replicate it because they don't have a Maestro unit and Sync display at their facility, but they also determined that it's likely normal behavior and just a part of the boot up process.

Makes me feel better that I'm not the only one that is seeing this, and now I don't have to worry about my navigation head unit taking a dump later on.

Now only issue I have to fix is the crackling/cutting out in the front passenger speaker. Going to run all new speaker wire from the Maestro side of the harness in the dash and going to drill a hole through the molex connector to the door and run it directly to the speaker. Probably going to do the driver's side as well since there's been a couple of times I've turned the stereo on and there was no sound in that speaker until after turning the volume up some.

Upgrade both speakers while you are in there

Been there, done that. lol First upgrade was Kicker 6x8's in all four doors. Then I decided to change out the front doors to some Alpine 6.5" components. Much happier with the sound up front after that. Really reduced the muddiness sound of the stereo even when I had the stock stereo in. They sound amazing now when I don't have the crackling/fading/cutting out of the front speakers.

Did you ever get the adapter for the iphone 5?
And do you get the crackling, or static sound when your listening to music from your phone?

There is nothing wrong with your stuff. The tuner does this when booting and the message gests passed to us. We are not able to prevent it from showing on the screen unless we modify all our code to read every message the Kenwood sends us and filter out ones we don't want to display. I have seen lots of other posts about this and people have had no long term issue (other than the annoyance of seeing the message).

Hope this is helpful.
