I did read all of that thread. I'm not good at all at electrical work, just being completely honest. I have no desire to do it either. I would love to do something like that harness but I don't think i would be able to get an audio shop to use that to amplify the truck, unfortunately most don't like being told how to do what you're paying them to do, lol.
And the speaker mounts, I know you have to cut the old speakers out and install new ones and solder the leads, at least to keep factory wiring. Hell if you know of a different solution to mounts I'm all ears (other than the generic plastic "sheet" mounting)

I'm the opposite of you, I have a 2.7L w/Sony system. From all the threads I've read there just isn't a solution yet. I have already removed the pins to disable my "fake engine noise". Stage 3 motorsports has the Kicker speaker upgrade for a pretty reasonable price and another member did Infinity Kappas as an upgrade. My only issue is whether the factory deck can power them sufficiently, probably not. My thoughts were to upgrade the speakers, get a harness and add an amp (Alpine 445u) and call it a day. I'm sure the aftermarket will catch up soon.

I'll give you my 2 cents, since I'm debating on what to do with my 2015 KR w/Sony:
I consider these new trucks fairly quiet compared other examples, and think its possible to make some moderate changes in these without breaking the bank.
This sony amp is supposedly 700 watts I think (maybe someone knows for sure), I would guess somewhere around 350 or so RMS, which means (assuming 6 channels total - 1 for ctr channel, 2 front, 2 rear, 1 sub) it puts out roughly 50-60 watts per channel, probably a little less, with 75 or so for the sub. *****these are all estimates, if someone has confirmation, please advise*****
Given the above, my plan is to do the door swap first (probably with Infinity 6x9 coax., and 6.5 in the rear). If I was to replace the tweeters too and go the component route I would definitely do an aftermarket amp, but I feel the Infinity's are a brand that's fairly "compatible" with stock systems/amps. A single 10" sub should be plenty for the cabin space. I had a single 10" Kicker shallow mount and Kicker amp in my 06 and it was plenty. I also like the JL microsub dual 8" box but its pricey.
FWIW, my brand preferences from what I've had in the past, in order are:
Amps: Alpine>JL Audio>Kicker>MTX
Door speakers: Hertz>Infinity>Polk>Kicker>MTX
Subs: JL Audio>Kicker
Sound Processors: I've only used AudioControl units, and even their top line is @ $400, the Audisons and others only go up from there.
Head Units: Have always preferred Alpines in the past but haven't replaced a head unit in a while with all the aftermarket integration these days.

Looks like I'm going to be the guinea pig. I'm taking delivery of a new 2015 F-150 with MFT 8" screen non Sony on Wednesday. Like the OP, I have the same basic qualifications/wants for an audio upgrade on my truck. There isn't a whole lot out there and it almost seems like the new F-150 has thrown the aftermarket a curve ball. This is what I am installing this weekend, I ordered the Kicker VCC Powerstage PF150SC15. I went with this because I didn't want to sacrifice any cargo space in the cab, I didn't want to cut any factory harnesses, and because of all the good reviews the previous generation's enclosure kit. I also wanted to upgrade the door speakers but was concerned that the Kicker Soundstage kit is supposedly tuned to the stock speakers. I emailed Kicker about this and they simply stated that they recommend using the KS door speaker as an upgrade with the Powerstage. Im guessing, with what little knowledge i have, that the "stock tune" for the Powerstage is just dialing back the bass to the door speakers so it can push more power to them. Anyways, sorry for the long post. I plan on pulling out a couple cameras and doing a video of the install and my impression. If all goes well I should have a video up on Sunday/Monday. Sorry again for the long post.

I DONT have the Sony system, just the ford stuff. I do have MFT though. I got a few quotes for an installed system with infinitty kappas components in the front, coaxials out back, a 5 channel amp (around 900 amps, something like the kenwood excelon xr900-5) and a single 10 inch sub under the seat, plus a decent sound processor. Labor and parts and all are estimated around 1400 to 1800 depending on which shop I went to.

So I have completed the install of the Kicker Powerstage system on my 2015 F-150. Here is a link to my post which gives you my opinion and includes a video of the install......
